Tips for the Burn

tips for burning man

If you're one of the lucky ones attending the 2018 Burn, it's vital to prepare for the party, climate, and uncertainty that comes with your amazing BM experience. With so much to prepare for, it's easy to forget things. Lucky for you, BM Bike Rentals has prepared a list of essentials needed for your next Playa adventure.

(1) TICKETS

This seems obvious, but every year, hundreds of Burners forget their tickets, and in some cases, have to turn back to retrieve them. Tip: place them in the visor of the vehicle that you're going to take out to the Burn. Do this AS SOON as your tickets are in hand. By doing this, your tickets are out of sight, out of mind, and right where you need them to be upon arrival.

(2) Spare Car Key

Who knows where you'll end up or what you'll be doing out in the Playa. Make sure to pack and place a spare car key OUTSIDE of the vehicle once you arrive. Make sure your hiding place is somewhere where they key will remain stationary and hidden. In the rare event you do lose your key, your future self will thank you.

(3) Extra Water

This depends on how many days you plan on staying out on the playa, but if you think you've already packed enough gallons of water, you haven't. PACK 5 MORE. It's hot out there and you'll be movin' and groovin' which means it's vital to stay hydrated. More often than not, your campmates will need to steal a swig here and there as well.

Tip: buy a kiddy pool or bucket to stand in. If you have extra water, treat yourself to nice soapy rinse while standing somewhere that captures the water. Lord knows you'll need it...

(4) Warm Clothes

If you're a virgin Burner, you may not be aware of the extreme climate provided by the Playa. Days are hot and nights are cool, sometimes very cool - especially if you find yourself wandering around in the wee hours of the morning. Pack a coat and sweatpants in your Playa adventure pack. You never know where the night will take you.

(5) Home Base Location

The Playa is VAST and BUSY. Although you have a specific address, it's easy to get lost out there. Find a large structure located near your camp, one that you can see from afar (don't worry, there'll be plenty) and keep it in mind as you venture out. If you find yourself disoriented, you'll at least have a home base to get back to.

(6) Lights

Always, always pack extra headlamps, batteries, and LED wire for your bike. With so many people and art cars all over the place, it is essential to be seen and well-lit.
